This is an Expert, postgraduate course in response to the growing demand of many teachers due to the increasing importance of digital and remote learning. This course is designed to help teachers develop their instructional technology (IT) competencies and skills. IT skill development will provide teachers and educators with the necessary tools to work successfully in digital learning settings.

The IT postgraduate program is based on best practices of remote and digital learning. Participants will learn about the importance of digital learning characteristics and will be presented with scenarios to gain practical, hands-on experience with the IT tools provided.

Throughout the postgraduate program, the educator will have the opportunity to form a support network to share experiences, resources, ideas, and much more with other teachers. This gives educators in online learning the opportunity to cope with the obstacles of designing and implementing remote learning styles. Therefore, this program will help participants successfully strengthen their instructional skills using stress-free and safe strategies in online learning settings.

General objectives of the course:

  • To build an effective and affective learning and teaching experience, working in a real and meaningful way that gives the teacher, or future teacher, an active and interactive role throughout the course. LEARNING THROUGH EXPERIENCE entails teaching in virtual environments.
  • To promote technological innovation in educational institutions from qualified teachers introducing changes in the teaching-learning processes.
  • To promote the use of open educational resources.
  • To discover the advantages of the e-learning model and understand what ICT can provide in the classroom and how to use it without stress.
  • To develop the key competencies of teachers in the context of digital teaching-learning and know how to safely operate at different educational levels including primary, secondary, and higher education.
  • To promote collaborative and cooperative work with active methodologies and digital environments, creating associative networks and developing students’ social and emotional skills.

  • To be aware of the importance of transforming the learning and teaching process by incorporating active methodologies.
  • To understand that school, in a digital society, must use and adapt informal learning to bring it closer to the students.
  • To personalize the educational process through the creation and development of your own Personal Learning Environment (PLE).
  • To promote equal opportunities in access to education through the Universal Design of Learning, DUA, in English (UDL).

Specific objectives of this postgraduate course:

  • To learn to design project-based class schedules including active methodologies, digital content, and open educational resources (OER).
  • To integrate content on awareness, risks, and norms into class programs for responsible behavior in online environments, as well as intellectual property and copyright rules, when digital content is used, combined or created.
  • To use flexible and motivating teaching strategies facilitated by ICT, taking into account the diversity, creativity, and interests of students.
  • To analyze the advantages of the use of ICT in the classroom.
  • To acquire strategies to cope with the affective/emotional repercussions that can be generated by this type of teaching environment for both the teacher and the student.
  • To acquire the necessary knowledge and skills for the use of technological materials and resources to carry them effectively and efficiently into the classroom.

    Description of the Syllabus

    Course 1: Introduction to e-learning teaching scenarios

    • Digital dimensions in ICT training for teachers.
    • New educational scenarios (CBT systems; e-learning systems).
    • Differences between CMS, LMS, LCMS, and EVA ( E-learning).
    • Learning Platforms. How to set up and manage courses.
    • Use of mobile devices in teaching. Mobile-learning as a methodological democratic tool.

    Course 2: Teaching methodology in virtual learning environments (VLE)

    • Different methodologies to bring to the virtual classroom (PBL, etc.).
    • Differences in virtual teaching by educational levels.
    • Development of CLIL/"AICLE" methodology in virtual contexts.
    • Gamification. Creation of learning strategies.

    Course 3: Instructional Design Models for class planning

    • Universal Learning Design (DUA).
    • The Inverted Class.

    Course 4: Management and handling of the virtual classroom versus face-to-face.

    • Characteristics of the technological classroom.
    • How to make effective video-tutorials.

    Course 8: The evaluation process in distance education

    • Virtual educational e-portfolios as a teaching tool.

    • Planning elements when structuring a virtual class.

    Sistema de enseñanza y metodología de estudio

    The course uses an online methodology based on the acquisition of technological and digital competencies for teachers via the Online University of Madrid (UDIMA). Information and communication technologies are actively used to provide a personalized education offering all of the necessary digital skills for professional development.

    This Expert is taught by teachers specialized in the subject and teaching strategies associated with information and communication technologies.

    Sistema de evaluación

    The UDIMA evaluation system is continuous and is based on the completion of various coursework.

    • Learning activities: assessment tests based on collective knowledge.
    • Online assessment tests at the end of each module.
    • Ongoing assessment activities: scenarios and case studies.

    During the course, the students will create their own Digital Teaching Portfolio.

    Within each course, the methodology applied in class will be based on:

    • Theoretical study of the subject based on case studies.
    • Completion of group and individual tasks.
    • Study of real cases and simulations.
    • Virtual classes taught by the course teachers.
    • Articles and complementary links on the study topic.
    • A final assessment.

    In addition, the course will offer:

    • Educational mentoring from day one to guide the student throughout their learning process via email, mobile app, or video-conferencing.
