Este grupo de investigación, compuesto por especialistas en neuropsicología, psicología básica y neurociencia, se enfoca en la investigación referida al estudio del funcionamiento neuropsicológico de los procesos cognitivos básicos y complejos. Adicionalmente, se considera un área de interés el conocer y profundizar en el entendimiento de variables y sintomatología emocional involucrada en la relación entre cerebro y cognición. Por ende, el interés del grupo es aplicar dicho conocimiento en el estudio de los sustratos neurocognitivos de síntomas psicopatológicos externalizantes e internalizantes, cuyo interés destaca por hallarse en la base de trastornos psicológicos y psiquiátricos o condiciones como el suicidio.

Considerando lo anteriormente expuesto, conviene señalar que el propósito principal del grupo a largo plazo es posicionarse como un grupo referente en el estudio de los procesos cognitivos básicos y complejos con rigor científico, tanto para aplicar dicho conocimiento en el contexto investigador como permitir que dichos conocimientos sean derivados hacia el ejercicio de la práctica clínica. Con este interés confluye el objetivo de presentar artículos y trabajos de alto impacto, optar a proyectos competitivos, extender los resultados de las investigaciones en reuniones y simposios científicos y promocionar las elaboraciones colectivas en servicios de extensión universitaria.

De esta manera, el grupo se predispone a:

Objetivos Generales:

• Desarrollar y contribuir al conocimiento del funcionamiento y bases biológicas de los procesos cognitivos y emocionales desde los ámbitos de la Neuropsicología y la Neurociencia.
• Promover la generación de propuestas y proyectos de investigación de calidad sobre el funcionamiento cognitivo y emocional de las personas.
• Fomentar el contacto y las relaciones académico-investigadoras con otros grupos de investigación nacionales a internacionales de las áreas de Neurociencia y Neuropsicología.

Objetivos Específicos:

• Impulsar el estudio de las principales variables psicológicas (cognitivas y afectivas) que intervienen en los procesos de salud y enfermedad y que son relevantes para el estudio de la relación cerebro-conducta.
• Analizar la influencia de los procesos cognitivos en el desarrollo y mantenimiento de trastornos y enfermedades neurológicas y psiquiátricas.
• Estudiar las asociaciones entre las alteraciones neuropsicológicas y las anomalías cerebrales subyacentes y construir o sustentar planteamientos sobre la teoría y la base de pruebas de la evaluación y rehabilitación neuropsicológica.
• Contribuir a la formación del alumnado de la UDIMA en la inclusión de las tareas del grupo CERN.
• Brindar asesoramiento a grupos de investigación de la UDIMA y externos que requieran orientación sobre el estudio de los procesos cognitivos.

Short description of the Group and objectives:

This research group, composed of specialists in neuropsychology, basic psychology and neuroscience, focuses on research related to the study of neuropsychological functioning of basic and complex cognitive processes. Additionally, it is considered an area of interest to know and deepen the understanding of variables and emotional symptomatology involved in the relationship between brain and cognition. Therefore, the interest of the group is to apply such knowledge in the study of the neurocognitive substrates of externalizing and internalizing psychopathological symptoms, whose interest stands out for being at the basis of psychological and psychiatric disorders or conditions such as suicide.

Considering the above, it should be noted that the main purpose of the group in the long term is to position itself as a reference group in the study of basic and complex cognitive processes with scientific rigor, both to apply such knowledge in the research context and to allow such knowledge to be derived towards clinical practice. With this interest comes together the objective of presenting high impact articles and papers, to opt for competitive projects, to extend the results of the research in scientific meetings and symposiums and to promote the collective elaborations in university extension services.

In this way, the group proposes:

General Objectives:

• Develop and contribute to the knowledge of the functioning and biological bases of cognitive and emotional processes from the fields of Neuropsychology and Neuroscience.
• To promote the generation of proposals and quality research projects on the cognitive and emotional functioning of people.
• To promote contact and academic-research relationships with other national and international research groups in the areas of Neuroscience and Neuropsychology.

Specific Objectives:

• To promote the study of the main psychological variables (cognitive and affective) involved in health and disease processes and relevant to the study of the brain-behavior relationship.
• To analyze the influence of cognitive processes in the development and maintenance of neurological and psychiatric disorders and diseases.
• To study the associations between neuropsychological alterations and underlying brain abnormalities and to build or support approaches to the theory and evidence base of neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation.
• To contribute to the training of UDIMA students in the inclusion of the tasks of the CERN group.
• To provide advice to UDIMA and external research groups that require guidance on the study of cognitive processes.

• Neuropsychology of basic cognitive processes (attention, perception, processing speed) and complex (executive functions, language, memory, social cognition).
• Neuropsychological evaluation and rehabilitation in population with neurological, psychiatric and psychological syndromes and conditions throughout the life cycle.
• Study of cognitive and emotional alterations in population with neurological, psychiatric and psychological conditions and difficulties throughout the life cycle.
• Application of neuroimaging and neurophysiology techniques to the study of cognitive and emotional processes.
