Short description of the Group and objectives:
An interdisciplinary legal group focused on the critical analysis of legal systems, governance, public policy, and international relations to address complex social issues within national, international, and transnational contexts, with particular emphasis on equity, social justice, and sustainable development. The group aims to develop innovative legal proposals grounded in both international and domestic law; analyze the dynamics, institutions, and normative frameworks shaping international relations and multilateral cooperation; evaluate and improve regulatory frameworks and governance models regarding effectiveness, democratic legitimacy, transparency, and accountability; and investigate the role of law in promoting gender equality, social participation, and collective well-being by identifying barriers to accessing rights and designing legal instruments to reduce inequalities.
Investigation lines:
- International and domestic law in practice: Cross-cutting study and practical application of all branches of law to address contemporary legal problems.
- Regulation, governance and public policy: Analysis of regulatory frameworks, institutions and decision-making processes that shape multilevel governance, as well as the design, implementation and evaluation of public policies in national and international contexts.
- Equity, gender and social participation: Research on how law and public policies can reduce inequalities, incorporate a gender perspective, and strengthen citizen participation and access to justice for vulnerable groups.
- Sustainable development and social well-being: Legal analysis of the challenges of sustainable development, including the environment, climate change and social rights, aimed at promoting fair and inclusive welfare models that respect ecological limits.
- An analysis of transformations in the international order and the dynamics of cooperation, conflict, and interdependence among states, international organizations, private actors, and civil society. Adopting an interdisciplinary perspective, the field addresses major contemporary global challenges—such as peace and security, migration, human rights, climate change, sustainability, and post-conflict reconstruction—while paying special attention to geopolitics, global governance, the role of the European Union, the rise of China and East Asia, geoeconomics, technological competition, and the impact of artificial intelligence on innovation and sustainable transformation.
